DBFY Star Award

Rachel 3

Rachel from Corner house cakes is our winner of the DBFY Star Award, I caught up with her to find our more about her and her biz.

What made you decide to open Corner House Cakes?

I gave up working when I became pregnant with my first child in 2008. Whilst at home I started to bake and discovered it was really something I enjoyed and was happy creating different things.

My first ‘proper’ bake was my daughters Christening cake, it looked and tasted great! (Even if I do say so myself!)

Family and friends started to ask for things and that made me think “would people pay for the things I do?”

In 2014 my personal circumstances changed and I had to support myself and my children so it was either get a 9-5 job or take the gamble and do something I loved, turn the hobby into a business.

What’s Unique?

My customer’s know me, I have a relationship with them from the first contact enquiry to the end product.

What is your Personal Goal?

To own my own home with a super duper kitchen and a football pitched side garden for my footie mad kids!

To have a business brand that everyone knows and own a shop one day show casing my products.

Favourite Quote

If someone offers you and amazing opportunity and your not sure you can do it, say yes and then learn how to do it later.
(I’ve done this a few times!)

What advice would your give to someone starting out?

Find someone in your field who you look up to and look at what they are doing.
Also Talk! Find other biz people in your position, they might have advice and might be needing your story or advice too.

If you weren’t running Corner House Cakes what would you do?

My dream job? Being a Gin taster? Or Tom Hardy’s PA

You can taste one of Rachel’s delicious cakes at our next meeting 28th November, look forward to seeing you
